Dear Arc Supporters,

Thanks to You, The Arc is there when families need support…

A stay-at-home mom with two busy young boys, LJ and JoJo, Sherri felt overwhelmed with LJ’s autism diagnosis. At the urging of her early intervention provider, she contacted the Arc of Snohomish County for support. Sherri started attending the Arc’s Mothers Network support group to meet other moms raising children with developmental disabilities. Mothers Network provided free onsite childcare for LJ and JoJo while Sherri connected with other moms to share support, encouragement, information and resources.

Connecting and supporting families, caregivers & siblings

The Arc’s free Connecting Families events such as the Arc Special Connections Carnival, Arc in the Park, Arc at M-Bar-C Ranch, and Arc Harvest Festival have given Sherri, her husband, Jyah, and their boys the opportunity to meet other families with similar joys and struggles. LJ’s younger brother, JoJo, attends the Arc’s Sibshops, building connections with other kids like him who “get it” and who also have a sibling with special needs.

Because of you and your generosity

Sherri has become an Arc Leader completing both Helping Parent and IEP Parent Partner trainings. As an Arc volunteer, Sherri is available to be matched with other families to offer confidential peer support and encouragement when a family’s child has a new diagnosis or struggle or is in need of support for their special education IEP meetings. Sherri has also learned how to advocate, sharing her family’s story at the Arc’s 2016 Legislative Forum with local legislative representatives, providers, and Arc families.

Sherri and Jyah’s boys have come a long way. LJ is in developmental kindergarten and he enjoys baseball, swimming, climbing and dancing. JoJo attends an integrated developmental preschool as a student mentor, encouraging his peers with social play and speech. Sherri continues to attend the Arc’s Mothers Network support group where she has developed great friendships and continues to learn and share with the other moms in the group.

Please make a contribution today.

Your donations have allowed us to support hundreds of families like Sherri’s with our Support Groups, Connecting Families events, Sibshops, Education, Leadership and Advocacy programs. Please continue to support the Arc of Snohomish County with your generous donation for 2016.

Sincerely,
Shayne Nagel
